What imagery impacted you and why?
The obvious one - the images of the dead and dying. It just hits especially hard because they would've lived if their government hadn't withheld food from them, it was totally avoidable Could you do what Sebastião Salgado did? Why or Why not? I think I could. I'd like to use my photography to support a cause worth fighting for, put my talents to use doing something to fix a problem on earth. Do you think his images changed your mind on photography? It has only amplified the idea that photography can be used for many things as a tool, to document and make public the atrocities happening in the world around us. It can also be used to make people feel good and happy about a picture, or simply make them think. Why do you think Sebastião Salgado used black and white in photos? Color can make an image even more distracting, so black and white can help focus just on the subject, rather than everything else. How important was the location for Sebastião Salgado pictures? The location is infinitely important, because this type of mass death isn't happening everywhere. It makes it more prevalent which parts of the world need more help. How important was the subject matter for Sebastião Salgado pictures? It was even more important than the location. Human suffering was the topic of many of his projects that hit me hard. How did Sebastião Salgado tell a story with just one image? He did a very good job emphasizing human suffering, and emotion in general, as a way to show you how they felt. "people come up to me as if I'm recording it, instead of taking pictures of them. That's the most important moment, just before they start talking, you can see their life in that moment" was a very good depiction of how he showed a story.
